American Legion Post 220 baseball results for Weeks 1 and 2

Wareham's American Legion Post 220 baseball team is undefeated after the first week of baseball, with a 3-0 record for the season.

The June 13 game against Marshfield was postponed due to rain. The June 13 game against Hanover was postponed due to umpires' no-show.

The result for the first game of the 2nd week is also featured below.

 

WEEK 1

June 10 - Post #220, 10; Whitman, 2

The Wareham Legion Post #220 Baseball Program opened the 2012 season with a home win. Pitcher Matt Beatty from Old Rochester struck out 10, allowed 4 hits and 2 walks, and only gave up two earned runs to Whitman.

Third baseman Ryan Steek from Upper Cape had an outstanding start to the summer, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Davarn Nova from Coyle and Cassidy High School in Taunton enjoyed a 2-for-4 game that included 3 RBIs.

Shortstop Jimmy Gamache of Tabor went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Billy Peterson of Wareham went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Catcher Zach Angelo of Tabor and center-fielder Sean Conway of Wareham each went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Right fielder PJ Poulin of Old Rochester earned his first American Legion hit, going 1-for-3 with one run scored.

 

June 11 - Post #220, 5; Bridgewater, 4

Post #220 was able to fend off Bridgewater’s late charge in the top of the seventh inning after earning a 5-0 lead. Hadley Stone of Taft pitched six shut-out innings, while giving up three hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Zack Kirby of Old Rochester and Framingham State ultimately earned the save in the seventh inning by getting the final three outs and securing the win.

Sean Griffith of Bourne was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, infielder Austin Salkind of Old Rochester collected his first American Legion hit in his only at-bat and scored the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly by Ian Searles of Wareham.

Brett Labonte of Wareham played well defensively in left field and also collected his first American Legion hit, going 2-for-2 on the night.

 

June 17 - Post #220, 6; Rockland, 4

Pitcher Ian Searles of Wareham picked up his first win on the mound this summer against a tough Rockland line-up.

Searles pitched hard for six innings and allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out ten.

Zack Kirby of Old Rochester and Framingham State earned his second consecutive save after coming in with the bases loaded and nobody out in the seventh inning.

Post #220 was able to get out of the jam by turning a game-ending triple play on a line out to shortstop, forcing out the runners at second and first respectively.

Jimmy Gamache of Tabor and Billy Peterson of Wareham went 1-for-3, with each scoring a run.

Brett Labonte of Wareham and Ryan Steek of Upper Cape went 1-for-2, with each scoring a run.

Austin Salkind of Old Rochester added a double, while Sean Conway of Wareham finished the night going 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs.
