Amos P. Cardoza, 66, U.S. Navy veteran, painter
Amos P. Cardoza, 66, of Wareham, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Providence VA Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Wareham, the son of the late Filenio J. & Annie (Miranda) Cardoza, he graduated from Wareham High School in 1961. After high school, Mr. Cardoza joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Intrepid (CVS-11).
After his Naval service, Mr. Cardoza returned to Wareham and worked as a painter at Mass. Maritime Academy in Bourne. Mr. Cardoza received several commendations for his assistance during the fire of December 22, 1981 aboard the USTS Bay State IV where he was credited for saving the lives of several cadets.
Survivors include his son, Amos P. Cardoza, Jr., of Northampton; four brothers, Joseph J. Cardoza, of Wareham, William A. Cardoza, Esq., of Rockville, MD, Robert F. Cardoza, of E. Wareham and Filenio J. Cardoza, Jr., of Westport.
The funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Monday, August 16, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, High St., Wareham, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.
