Art for a dog park

Aug 3, 2019

Kids of all ages shared their pet-inspired art at TD Bank at the finale of DPAW’s Unleash the PAWsibilities Youth Arts Contest.

The bank lobby was transformed for the event as it filled with kids and parents, dogs, balloon art, an oversized bowling game, pizza, watermelon, and, of course, artwork by kids.

The context was put on by the Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham, perhaps better known as DPAW. The group is working to raise awareness of the future park — and the funds to make it possible.

The future dog park was approved during the 2017 Town Meeting and the group currently has a 99-year lease with the town for a 1-acre property off Maple Springs Road.

Sally Morrison of DPAW announced the contest winners. Emilyann Schluter was the winner in the 15- to 18-year-old age group for her drawing of a cat enjoying a snack.

In the 10- to 14-year-old age group, Emily Holmes was the winner for her drawing titled “Benji’s Escape.”

Among the entries by 5- to 9-year-olds, Frenchie McKenzie was the winner for her drawing, “Dream Dog.”

Brielle Ray was the winner of the literary contest for her poem, titled “Akamaru’s Day.”

The Affiliation will also be launching adult programming soon. For more information, or to support the affiliation’s work, go to www.warehamdogpark.org   or the Facebook group titled “Dog Park Affiliation of Wareham –DPAW.”
