Become partners-in-grime with Don't Trash Wareham
Event Date:
The weekend of Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5 will not go to waste with Don't Trash Wareham's town-wide clean up.
Event organizer and Select Board Member, Joseph Still, said he is looking to inspire people to do good.
"It's one thing to do something good for somebody, but it's another thing to be really good for your community," he said. "At the end of the day, if I'm doing one good thing and inspire 100 other people— it makes everybody do great things."
This is far from the first Don’t Trash Wareham event, Still spearheaded a clean-up of Recovery Road in June that saw piles of trash cleared by a volunteer team. Don’t Trash Wareham is a beautification group that has been cleaning Wareham since 2015.
The town-wide event slowly dwindled in participation following the pandemic and plans on making its big return.
The clean-up will stretch all across Wareham with groups organized to clean up certain areas such as Eversource on Doty Street and the Coast Guard on Merchants Way.
Residents are encouraged to adopt an area or step outside their front door and help clean up their neighborhood. Still said anyone interested in joining should sign up through the Google form listed on the Don't Trash Wareham's Facebook page.
"That's the best way we can get requests for grabbers and trash bags," Still said.
Still will be at the Town Hall parking lot at 10 a.m. both days with supplies for those wanting to participate. He said his goal is to start a conversation about trash among the community.
"Being 23-years-old I've never not seen trash around Wareham," he said.
As the event approaches he said he looks forward to seeing how many people take part.
"If someone gets out there and does something positive and posts it on Facebook— that's what I want to see," he said. "I want to see everyone talk about trash more."
