Assistant Town Accountant serving as Acting Town Accountant

Nov 29, 2012

Assistant Town Accountant Judith Lauzon is now serving as acting town accountant, Interim Town Administrator Derek Sullivan reported during a joint meeting of the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee on Wednesday.

Former town accountant Brian Kudish left the post in November.

Sullivan said he is waiting until the first of the year to post the job, in hopes that waiting until after the holiday season will result in more people applying for the position.

Kudish was hired by Wareham last May at a salary of $81,571. Before he came on board, Wareham’s finances were overseen by firm Bay State Municipal Accounting.

Kudish was Wareham’s first permanent town accountant since April of 2011, when Elizabeth Zaleski was fired after a $919,000 discrepancy was found in the town’s books. It was discovered that no money was missing, and that the discrepancy was due to incorrect entries in the town ledger. Zaleski settled with the town for $42,500, and was reinstated, but agreed to resign immediately. She now works as town accountant for Raynham.
