Atlantic Mariners close out Autumn League with championship win

Junior baseball team the Atlantic Mariners have won the Autumn Baseball League championship, beating the Atlantic Sea Wolves for the title in the 12 and under division.
The team, which has four kids from Wareham, beat the Bristol, Rhode Island-based team Friday. The league is based out of Pembroke, but includes teams based anywhere from Wareham to Rhode Island.
Coach Chris Thornell said it is the 16th year the league has run, and that it is for those who want to continue playing baseball into the colder months.
“Really, our baseball season started at the end of March,” Thornell said. “We play a regular season, and most kids play on town teams, as well.”
Thornell said this win marks the end of the league’s season, and that the fall season is a good time “to work on things – if you have a position you want to get better at, or you want to pitch, and you’re not a pitcher.”
