Basketball for all

Nov 22, 2020

Ahead of Thanksgiving, Aaron Strothers of Village Hoops wanted to give back to his neighborhood — so he got together more than 60 basketballs in different sizes and colors to give away to neighborhood kids.

Strothers said that when the town put the basketball hoops back up at courts across town, he wanted to do something to celebrate, but he didn’t want to throw a full event that could risk violating coronavirus safety rules.

And he wanted to make sure that whatever he came up with was completely free — something that is unusual any time, but especially during the pandemic.

So, he came up with the idea to give away free basketballs to kids under the age of 13.

“Thanksgiving is about giving back,” Strothers said.

Strothers thanked everyone who donated to the event, including Faded Image Barber Shop.

Strothers grew up playing basketball in Onset, so the event had an extra layer of meaning for him.

“I want every kid in Onset to have a basketball,” Strothers said.
