Bay Pointe to expand sewer for new homes
The Bay Pointe Club in Onset plans to build 115 new single family homes on its property, and it needs more sewer capacity in order to do so.
At its Tuesday, Dec. 10 meeting, the Board of Selectmen voted to allow the sewer expansion. However, this is contingent on the results of an impact and mitigation study.
Once the study is complete, Bay Pointe representatives will appear before the board again for a final vote.
According to Town Administrator Derek Sullivan, the average price of the homes would be $300 to $400,000, and would add $400,000 to $500,000 to the tax base.
According to Director of Water Pollution Control Guy Campinha, the Water Pollution Control Facility has a total capacity of 1.5 million gallons a day, with about 137,000 currently available.
He added that the plant, on average, will see 800,000 gallons per day, and peak at 1.2 million.
However, the town has been working on hammering out a deal with the Southeastern Massachusetts Resouce Recovery Facility, or SEMASS, that could expand the plant's capacity.
"We have asked SEMASS to take up to a half-million gallons a day," in waste-water to be treated, which would expand the daily capacity of the plant by a half million gallons, Campinha explained. "It's a long term plan."
