Become a part of living history with the Wareham Militia

May 18, 2015

The Wareham Minutemen and Militia Companies invite new members, both individuals and families, who wish to participate in living history events.

The members focus on the history of the periods during the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War. The Wareham Minutemen and Militia dress in historically accurate clothing while marching in parades, appearing at schools, clubs, historical society presentations and other events to celebrate the area's history.

Members participate in battle reenactments and encampments to demonstrate military drills and battles, cooking over fires, living in tents and demonstrating the general lifestyle of the period.

The Minutemen and Militia have been accepted to participate in the 50th Anniversary Gaspee Days parade on Saturday, June 13; an encampment on Aug. 15 and 16 with Yarmouth Militia in Orleans; and on Oct. 2,3 and 4 with the Rehoboth 13th Continental Regiment’s Battle of Segregansett in Taunton.

The members will also be marching in other local parades such as the July 4th parade in Marion and in Wareham’s Veterans Day parade.

People of all ages are encouraged to join and participate in events. Musicians who play fife and/or drum are also needed. Anyone interested in becoming a part of Wareham’s history is encouraged to call 508-295-4225 or e-mail Wareham.minutemen@comcast.net.
