Big birthday win for Brogioli's Lady Vikings
A 32-point first quarter would prove to be all the offense the Lady Vikings would need in their 71-28 rout of Dighton-Rehoboth at Wareham High School Friday night.
Amber Filkins and Breanna Muir led the way for the home team, putting up 20 and 18 points respectively. Both were in double digits by the end of the first half, which ended with Wareham up 45-8.
"I thought we started out well and got clicking early. It was a good team win," said coach Dave Brogioli, who was mobbed by his team after the final whistle wishing him a happy birthday.
Aside from Filkins and Muir, Kia Fernandes had 18 points and Gina Mendes added 12 to provide a strong, balanced scoring attack for Wareham.
But Brogioli was most impressed with his team's defense, which held Dighton-Rehoboth's top scorer, sophomore Kylie D'Ambrosio, to single digit points for the first time all season.
"She didn't score on us until the end of the third quarter. I'm pretty happy with that," Brogioli said.
The girls continued their winning ways against Seekonk on Tuesday with a 61-41 win and will return home for a marquee matchup against Bourne on Friday, Feb. 7.
