The Board of Selectmen Tuesday recognized the Wareham High School boys' varsity basketball team for its sportsmanship and teamwork. The team brought home the town's first state championship title after defeating New Leadership Charter School of Springfield at the DCU Center in Worcester on Saturday.

"This is a memory that they will have for the rest of their lives," Board of Selectmen Chairman Bruce Sauvageau said.

The Board declared the week of March 13 to March 20 "State Champion Vikings Week." The week will culminate with a parade on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., starting at Besse Park and ending at Town Hall.

The players and coaches were presented with plaques and trophies, cake was served, and Viking pride filled the room.
