Wareham Police arrested a Plymouth man and Boston fire district chief on Saturday, Sept. 1, after he was accused of driving drunk and striking a car owned by an Onset firefighter during Illumination Night.

Mark Buchanan, 60, is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Police said  officers were called to the parking lot of the Onset Fire Department for a report of a possibly intoxicated driver that had struck another car and was attempting to flee.

Special Officer Robert Feeney saw the car back into a parked car, owned by an Onset firefighter, and then try to pull out of the lot. Police said Feeney yelled and waved for the driver to stop. However, the operator refused to stop forcing Feeney to move out of the way. The car then stopped, where Feeney had been standing, and Buchanan identified himself as a Boston fire district chief before his arrest. He was due in court on Sept. 4.
