Bourne Braves defeat Gatemen 3-2 in first game of second playoff series

The Wareham Gatemen lost the first game in the second round of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s playoffs, falling 3-2 to the Bourne Braves on Tuesday night at Doran Park in Bourne.

The loss follows the Gatemen’s sweep of the Falmouth Commodores in the first round of the playoffs.

On Tuesday, the Gatemen trailed 3-0 in the early innings.

The Gatemen closed the gap in the the seventh inning when first basemen Joe Drpich hit a blooper to left field, bringing in Robbie Metz and making the score 3-2.

In the ninth, the Gatemen nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback. Centerfielder Steven Kwan singled with one out. Metz then struck out, but Jarren Duran stepped to the plate and advanced Kwan to third base.

Drpich, hoping for a repeat of his successful seventh inning, took a swing, but flied out, ending the game.

Overall, the Gatemen notched eight hits to Bourne’s five. The second game of the three-game series is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at Spillane Field in Wareham.
