Briarwood Beach closed

Jun 29, 2012

Briarwood Beach in Wareham has closed effective Thursday, June 28, according to a Wareham Board of Health public notice.

All other Wareham beaches remain open and are safe for swimming.

The Barnstable County Laboratory analyzed the water at Briarwood Beach on June 27 and determined that the water was not safe.

Swimming at Briarwood beach could potentially pose serious health problems to the very young, the very old, or to people whose immune systems are compromised.

The recent rain events and/or migratory waterfowl are probably a contributing factor to the closure, according to the Board of Health public notice.

Weekly sampling will be performed to possibly re-open Briarwood Beach next week.

All other beach water samples meet the bacterial standards and are acceptable for bathing.
