'Bright by Text' program launches in Wareham

May 7, 2021

Wareham families can now get notified of family-friendly events and programs in their area through a text to their phones.

The United Way of Greater New Bedford recently announced it has partnered with Bright by Text, a program providing parents, caregivers, and family members with tips and local resources for children prenatal to age 8 via text message.

Rhonda Veugen, implementation manager for the new program, noted that mobile technology is how "people are getting their information now." In feeding texted information to phones, Bright by Text reaches people on the devices they are constantly using.

Any child caregiver can sign up for the service, including babysitters, teachers, and child-care workers along with parents and family members.

The service will also send two to four messages a week providing links to learning activities from PBS KIDS, Sesame Workshop, along with tips and community resources specifically based on child’s age and local zip code.

“There’s a lot of information that’s out there — it can be overwhelming,” Veugen said. “This allows us to quickly get them the information that they need.”

Register by texting GREAT to 274448.
