“With it having been such a snowy winter, I thought ‘Let’s do something now,’”said Danielle Gilmore, the aquatic director at the YMCA.
This is the second year that Gilmore has been having bubbles at the pool. She started it last year to encourage families with young children to visit, but discovered kids of all ages love the bubbles.
There were multiple ways to make bubbles; there were some bubble machines, wands the kids could use and a fan to place wands in front of to create a bubble cloud.
“They’re poppy and white and colorful,” said Lily, age 6. Her favorite part was catching the bubbles.
Music played and kids danced around, some ran back and forth between the bubble corner and the kiddie pool, others brought bubbles to show their friends and parents.
“[My favorite part] is how they look so bubbly,” said Erin, age 6 and a half.
Gilmore felt the bubble recipe was a success, and she wanted to share it so others could enjoy it as well. The bubbles consisted of Dawn Professional Detergent, baking powder, guar powder and rubbing alcohol mixed into water.
Overall, she felt the event was a success with lots of kids having bubbly fun.“Lot’s of happy kids, lots of smiles, lots of bubbles,” said Gilmore.
