Bus to take residents to lung cancer awareness event in Fairhaven

On Nov. 13, Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care will host a "Shine a Light on Lung Cancer" event at 6 p.m. at the Center for Cancer Care in Fairhaven, with a bus to depart from Tobey Hospital in Wareham at 5 p.m.

The event, which is held to honor lung cancer survivors will feature performances by American Idol Season 13 finalists Jillian Jensen and Alex Preston

Southcoast Health is joining 200 other communities across the country to host this event as part of a national movement created by the Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA). It was created to provide hope, inspiration and support to the thousands who are diagnosed with lung cancer. Lung cancer patients, survivors, family members, caregivers and the community are invited to join Southcoast Health for this very special event.

The event will feature entertainment by Back to Sweetness. Tami Gouveia from Tobacco Free Mass will be the keynote speaker. The speaking program will also include personal stories from survivors and lung cancer experts. At the end of the speaking program, the exterior of the center will be lit in purple lights and guests will illuminate glow sticks in honor of survivors and in memory of those who have passed.
