Buzzards Play Productions to hold auditions for spring performance

Jan 22, 2016

Buzzards Play Productions will be holding auditions for its spring production of Neil Simon’s comic play, “The Odd Couple”.

Auditions will be held at the theatre on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 21 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Anyone who auditions will be asked to perform a short comic monologue, preferably not from “The Odd Couple.” They will also be asked to do a brief reading from the script.

The plot centers around two ex-Army buddies: Felix Unger, a neat-freak news writer, whose marriage is ending, and Oscar Madison, a slovenly, recently divorced sportswriter. Felix has been thrown out of his house by his wife. When he shows up at his friend Oscar’s apartment on poker night, depressed, suicidal and homeless, Oscar offers to let Felix move in with him. Within days, Felix and Oscar nearly come to blows after a disastrous dinner date with the giddy Pigeon sisters who live upstairs.

The characters have an age range of 20s – 40s, and consist of Felix and Oscar, four other poker players, and the two Pigeon sisters.

The performance will be directed by Traci Antil. Those who audition are encouraged to email her at tre0714@aol.com for an audition slot.

No experience is needed. Training and coaching will be available during rehearsals.

Rehearsals will be decided contingent on the actors’ schedules, but will be held on two weeknights and Sunday afternoons each week, beginning the week of Feb. 29.

Show dates are slated for Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at 8 p.m., Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m., and Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. There will also be two performances on Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. and at 8 p.m.; and the closing performance, Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
