Buzzards Play Productions shows off talent
More than a dozen budding performers danced, acted, and sang their hearts out to a packed house at Buzzards Play Productions' first talent show on Thursday, August 4.
“I have been wanting to do a talent show for a while,” said Janice Rogers, owner/director of Buzzards Play Productions, located on Cranberry Highway in East Wareham. “There is a lot of talent out there that needs an outlet.”
Rogers said she hopes this will be the first of many talent shows for the arts center.
“I believe in theater and what it can do for children,” she told the audience Thursday.
The community theater for children in grades one through eight opened in April and recently put on its first production, God Spell, to much acclaim.
“I am thrilled. ... I have a platter full of ideas for the future,” Rogers said. Work at the theater "has been going really well."
So well in fact that she is planning three more plays, including a production of Rent, which she said she hopes will premiere early next year.
The space, housed in the old Ocean Spray complex, isn’t just used for plays. Buzzards Play Productions showcases artwork of local artists in its lobby.
On Thursday, show-goers enjoyed the artwork of recent Wareham High School graduate 18-year-old Sean Kinsky. Kinsky said this is the first time she has shown her artwork outside of high school.
Buzzards Play Productions offers 10-week workshops in theater games, choreography, creative movement, acting, voice coaching, and public speaking. Rogers has a set designer, costume designer, and choreographer on staff.
Rogers says she is always looking for talent and is calling all singers to audition for the upcoming productions.
