The Cranberry Country Camera Club gives photographers a chance to fine-tune their skills, and face off against their peers in monthly competitions that offer experience and feedback to contestants.

According to member Steve Ford, the group of about 20 photographers from Wareham, Carver, Rochester, Plymouth and Cape Cod meets at the Carver Library twice a month.

On the first Tuesday of each month, members hold competitions, where they receive feedback from judges to learn how to improve in the future. On the third Tuesday of each month, the club offers workshops and presentations from experienced photographers. Ford said that these sessions help teach the fundamentals of photography to beginners and give those with more experience an opportunity to share their knowledge with others. 

“We want to help people grow in their use of the camera,” Ford said. 

The club has had to adapt recently as libraries are now closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ford explained that the club is in the early stages of moving its competitions online. While photographers won’t be able to meet in person, they can still have their work judged online and receive feedback remotely.

Prior to the library closure, Ford said that one interesting presentation in recent memory centered around using drones to take photos, which Ford said give “a different perspective on how you see things around you.” 

In addition to the chance to learn and share work, Ford said that camaraderie is an advantage of joining the club. In general, he said that the purpose of the club is to “promote photography for fun.” 

Photographers in the club had their work on display in the Wareham Free Library during the month of March before the library was closed to the public due to the coronavirus.
