A successful Canal Cruise was hosted by the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association and Scholarship Committee.

The event was held on Sunday, August 28th and sailed on the Viking Ship from Onset Pier.

A sold out group of 134 enjoyed the music of DJ Frye and they danced throughout the entire cruise. A lovely sunset was photographed by many. There was a drawing for a lottery board of “scratchers” that was well supported by the cruisers.

Tiny Lopes and Co-Chair Lynn Spinola expressed their appreciation to the large group for all the support and participation. Mr. Lopes stated that although Covid has interrupted our lives, the scholarship program has continued the last 2 years through the fundraisers and donations from members, friends and families.

OCVFA has given $170,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors since 2003. The association credits the tremendous support from members, Cape Verdeans throughout the country, community residents and businesses for such generous support for almost 20 years.

Next year, the Onset Cape Verdean Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12th, 2023, where OCVFA hopes they will be able to return to the bluffs in Onset.
