Although the full Cape Verdean festival has not been held in several years, the organization behind it is still giving eight students $1,000 scholarships.

This year’s recipients are:

Ben Brogioli, a Wareham High grad, will attend the College of the Holy Cross.

Marley Dias, a graduate of West Orange High School in New Jersey, will attend Harvard University.

Logan Fernandes of Old Rochester Regional High School will attend Florida Atlantic University.

Wareham High graduate Shalynn Fernandes will attend Wheaton College.

Charles McCain, who graduated from Durham Academy, North Carolina, will attend UNC Chapel Hill.

Kent Silva Jr. of Wareham High will attend Suffolk University.

Katelyn Trask, a Wareham High School graduate, will attend UMass Boston.

Simone Vasconcellos-Cash, also of Wareham High, will attend Bridgewater State.

While no full festival is planned this year, a picnic is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 13.

The event will include live music, food, vendors and raffles, and admission costs $10 per person. Kids under 12 are free.

The event will feature performances by Amilton Tavares and Friends, Candida Rose and CV Roots.

The event will be held at the Onset VFW at 4 Gibbs Ball Park Rd. in Onset.
