Mar 15, 2010

A two-car rollover on Route 25 West, east of Route 195 (Exit 1) in Wareham, injured seven people, including five children, two of whom were injured critically, last Saturday morning. One of the cars was carrying family members of former Selectman Patrick Tropeano.

Preliminary investigation by the State Police indicates that 41 year-old Daylene Tropeano from Buzzards Bay was operating a 1999 GMC Suburban in the center lane when a 1999 Toyota Avalon being operated by 66 year-old Louise Houle from Falmouth approached from the rear and made contact with the Suburban, causing both vehicles to roll over. The GMC came to rest in the median on the driver's side, and the Toyota came to rest on its roof in the breakdown lane.

Both operators, along with five of the Tropeanos' children who were in the Suburban, were transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham.  Two children, 11-year-old Ryan Tropeano and 9-year-old Catie Tropeano were transferred to Children's Hospital in Boston.  The other victims suffered minor injuries.

According to a post from Tropeano on Facebook on Monday, Ryan was discharged from Children's Hospital that day, and 9-year-old Catie was stable.  The other children were doing all right. Tropeano thanked everybody for their thoughts and support.  He asks that people donate blood, and he wrote that he appreciates all the calls and well wishes.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section.

Troopers were additionally assisted at the scene by the Wareham Fire Department, Bourne Fire Department, and the DOT Highway Division.
