Card sharks to ante up for annual poker paddle
Event has passed
There will be a feeding frenzy in Onset Bay on Saturday, June 29 but there’ll be no fins in sight — just paddles — as card sharks compete in the Onset Bay Association’s annual kayak poker run.
Participants will meet at Shell Point Beach off South Boulevard and kayak around Onset Bay, building five-card poker hands by picking up cards from dealers positioned throughout the bay.
They will then return to shore and have the chance to exchange cards with each other for $2 per card. The best hand of the day wins, but prizes are given out in several categories. And since the game will conclude with a pizza party on the beach, everyone’s a winner! After prizes are paid out, all proceeds benefit the Onset Bay Association.
Registration costs $25 and all players must download, print and fill out a waiver. The waiver can be found online at tinyurl.com/bdzeya38 and must be brought to Shell Point Beach on the day of the event.
Same-day registration begins at 9 a.m. and kayaks will launch at 10 a.m. The poker run’s route will be announced closer to the date of the event. All participants are required to wear a personal floatation device.
To rent a kayak, call the Onset Bay Center at 508-999-6363, ext. 283.
