Case continued for town worker arrested on child porn charges

Jun 11, 2014

The case of the town worker arrested on child pornography charges in March has been continued to Aug. 19 in New Bedford Third District Court.

Frank Bergamasco, 63, was the town's parks and cemetery foreman. Bergamasco and his attoreny, Sean O'Brien went before a judge for his pre-trial hearing on June 10. Bergamasco was arrested by Wareham Police in March on charges of possession of child pornography and sexual conduct for a fee, stemming from an incident investigated by Dartmouth police in November.

Wareham interim Police Chief Kevin Walsh said Bergamasco, of 7 Elmwood St., was arrested without incident in the Municipal Maintenance garage parking lot on the afternoon of March 13. Walsh said the department was executing a warrant Dartmouth Police had issued on March 12.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said Bergamasco was been placed on paid administrative leave but could not comment further on the matter.

Asked about the four-month gap between the November incident and March's arrest, Dartmouth Police Detective Kyle Costa said that cases of this nature are reviewed by the district attorney and, with a large backlog of cases, it could take some time to review.

The police report of the arrest was sealed and could not be viewed by court officials or the public and the investigation is being conducted by the Dartmouth Police Department.
