Chinese students visit Wareham schools in cultural exchange

Jan 30, 2016

Even though it’s supposed to be their school holiday, a few students from China are visiting Wareham Middle and High Schools.

The students are visiting to experience American schooling, and culture through BostonWise, a Harvard-based program that serves multiple functions, including facilitating academic cultural exchange. The visit is the beginning of a sister school exchange program.

Minot Forest Elementary began a sister school partnership with Chinese students through Boston Ivy. Students from China visited Minot Forest Elementary in October 2015.

The three middle school students, by the English names of Tracy, Harry, and Bob, who are visiting Wareham Middle School said their favorite class so far is gym.

“We throw balls, sometimes,” Harry said. “It’s fun.”

The three don’t come from the same school in China, they said.

Teacher Jessica Andrews said they are shadowing different students in the school, and that there are are several activities planned for the students and their host families, including a visit to Stonehill College, a visit to Gillette Stadium, and a dim sum brunch.

Andrews said there will also be a farewell ceremony for the students Feb. 5.
