Chris Herren to speak at Wareham High School on August 1
Chris Herren will be presenting "New Hopes, Good Choices" at the Wareham High School auditorium on Wednesday, August 1 at 6:30 p.m.
Herren was a former Boston Celtics player whose career was cut short by drugs. Herren has been drug free since 2008 and he continues to share his story with audiences to educate at-risk populations on addiction.
“Addiction is an illness and there are plenty of people who are sick. I think it is important to get the message out about recovery because recovery is the key to restoring lives,” said Herren whose story is chronicled in the ESPN documentary “Unguarded” and his memoir, “Basketball Junkie.”
Herren's goal is to educate youth and at-risk populations on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and provide techniques to handle pressure within their lives, their community, or their family situation.
This free public event is made possible by the Scotty Monteiro Jr. Foundation, a non-profit organization that develops and maintains charitable programs centered on stopping the violence through education, awareness, and alternatives.
