Christmas spirit hits WCTV with holiday special

Dec 17, 2010

Christmas came a bit early at Wareham Community Television. Resident Christine Roderick hosted her second annual Christmas Special on Thursday evening, which featured Christmas carols and even a visit from Santa.

Roderick and her team produced the special to spread holiday cheer to Wareham children in-need.

"I love working with low-income kids," Roderick said. "I love to see the kids sit on Santa's lap."

A large group of children visited WCTV studios for the show, told Santa what they wanted for Christmas, and even received an early Christmas present from the generous elf.

But the children watching at home weren't left out! The show featured a call-in segment, with Santa answering the phone so children could get in their last-minute gift requests.

"Have I been on the naughty or the nice list," one boy asked over the phone.

"You've been on the nice list," Santa responded. Perhaps that means the caller will get the iPod Touch he requested!

The Christmas Special also included a visit from Roderick's nephew, Wareham resident and Army National Guard Captain Paul Barnett, and his fellow solider, Sergeant Matthew Gately.

Roderick dedicated last year's special to Barnett, who was serving in Afghanistan with Gately at the time. The soldiers thanked the community for its support during their deployment.

After the show came to an end, Roderick thanked WCTV and the community for helping her pull the production off, which was live and non-stop for an entire hour.

"I just want to thank everybody for donating the gifts," Roderick said. (Sometimes, even Santa needs a little help!)

"It's a lot of work, but Wareham came through again!"
