Come one, come all, to the Swan Festival
The 14th annual Swan Festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m on Merchants Way in downtown Wareham.
The festival is sure to be packed with family fun. New this year is "Touch-a-Truck," located at the Tremont Nail Property, which will give children a chance to explore various "heavy duty" vehicles.
Choo Choo Charley Train Rides with Cape Cod Central Railroad will be running from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The train will leave the festival and head to Buzzards Bay. It will stop at Touch-A-Truck on the way back. Children will participate in a dance and sing-a-long while on-board the train.
Also on the docket for children will be the Toe Jam Puppet Band. The band will entertain children with songs, dancing, puppetry, and storytelling. "That's a big draw for the kids," said Jacqueline Lindsey, event coordinator for the Wareham Village Association, which organizes the event.
Back by popular demand, representatives from the Dick Melloni Foundation will fit children with 1,000 free bicycle helmets. Children are invited to dress up in costumes and be a swan prince or princess for the day. (Fairies from Total Image Salon will do hair, make-up, nails, face-painting, and bag and mask decorating.)
Musical performances include Blues Alley, Grace Morrison, Daddy-O!, and BRENNA.
The festival also features crafts by local artisans, a food court with everything from lobster rolls to whoopie pies, and many local businesses selling their wares.
The rain date for the festival is Sunday, July 11. For more information, contact the Wareham Village Association at 508-291-3677.
