Dan J. Alves, 68

Dan J. Alves, 68, of Wareham, died Mon., Nov. 4, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Cecelia (Monteiro) Alves.

Born in Wareham, he was the son of the late Jennie Gomes Alves, and Sydney Pires. After receiving his master’s degree, Mr. Alves was a correctional officer at MCI Bridgewater until 1998. He then worked as an officer for the Department of Homeland Security in Taunton from 2001 - 2013.

He enlisted in the US Air Force with his good friend Elario Burgo from 1972-1974 during the Vietnam War. 

Mr. Alves enjoyed watching the Patriots and was active in his fantasy football league.  He also enjoyed playing cribbage with his good friend Steve Galvin and was a member of Full Gospel Christian Fellowship Church in New Bedford. 

Survivors include his wife; his children Michelle Barboza & her fiancé Casey Roberts of Dartmouth, and Louie Barboza of Woonsocket, RI. His siblings, Paul Alves and his wife Natalie, Viola Pina-Pires, and Donna Gomes, all of New Bedford. Brian Pires, Barry Pires, Sydney “Peachy” Pires, Jr., Paul Pires, Darrell Pires, Lynn Lopes, Roberta Pires, and Lydia Lightford all of Wareham. His grandchildren, Desirae Mitchell, Louis Barboza III, Danica Barboza, Gabrielle Barboza, and Cecelia Barboza; and his great granddaughter, Solae Mitchell-Pearson. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his late brothers, the late Christopher Pires, Patrick Pires and his sister, the late Lee Pires.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m.  His funeral service will be held on Tues., Nov. 12, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
