DECA gets 46 medals in district competition, 55 students going to states
One-hundred Wareham High School DECA students traveled to Hyannis earlier this month for district competitions, and returned with 46 medals.
Students competed individually or in the "team decision-making" category in subjects ranging from accounting to finance to retail management.
Wareham had four first-place winners, four second-place winners, and ten third-place winners, with 55 students moving onto state competitions.
DECA, which stands for "Distributive Education Clubs of America," is designed to help students gain marketing knowledge and a strong background in business.
The competitors completed two 100-question tests and had to role-play in various situations depending on their chosen category.
Individual competitors role-played in a job interview and were given a problem and had 10 minutes to brainstorm a solution. Team decision-making competitors prepared a promotional plan and had 30 minutes to solve a problem.
Students are now preparing for state competitions, which will take place in March.
