Decas student wins state-wide poster contest
The Wareham Garden Club recognized the creative and artistic talents of several second grade students in the Decas Elementary School in Wareham.
Olivia Mello and Maggie Avilla received certificates of participation and Andrew Evora was presented with a winner’s certificate and a blue ribbon. His poster won the state-wide contest for in his grade level. Evora’s poster will be sent for judging in a regional competition with posters from all of the northeastern states, where one poster will be chosen as the winner.
This is the second year the Wareham Garden Club has sponsored a Woodsy Owl Contest Poster Contest in conjunction with the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. This year’s theme was “Lend a Hand, Care for the Land.”
The theme has inspired children to take its message to heart. Avilla said she throws away cans and bottles so animals will not get sick from them.
“I want the wilderness to be clean for animals and to be healthy and safe,” Avilla said.
