Diabetes Event to be held at Makepeace Farms

Southcoast Health System will be presenting, “Living Healthy with Diabetes” a community event on Sunday, Dec. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Makepeace Farms at  146 Tihonet Road.

This is a free event and is open to the public. Certified diabetes educators from the Southcoast Diabetes Management Program will discuss how to live healthy with diabetes. Featured topics include healthy recipes and exercise tips.

In addition, a registered Southcoast dietician will be available to answer questions about making healthy food choices.

Part of Southcoast Health System, Southcoast Diabetes Management Program is an American Diabetes Association recognized program that offers a comprehensive series of educational sessions. These sessions are designed to give adults and their families the knowledge to live healthy lives with diabetes.

Education is offered in small group sessions or on an individual basis. The program addresses all aspects of diabetes self-management, including continuous glucose monitoring program, insulin pump use and training, self management skills, gestational diabetes management (development of diabetes during pregnancy), medication management, medical nutrition therapy, basic meal planning, personal sensor education and insulin injection instruction.

The program is staffed by a team of certified diabetes educators that includes registered nurses, dietitians and an exercise physiologist who are committed to helping patients live a healthier life.

The Southcoast Diabetes Management Program accepts most major health insurances and is now accepting appointments by physician referral.
