Dog park gets grant for design process

May 27, 2021

Corey Blanchard, the president of Dartmouth Park Affiliation of Wareham, reported at the May 25 Board of Selectmen’s meeting that the dog park advocates had received a grant to cover the start of the park’s design process.

The grant, about $22,000 from the Stanton Foundation, will cover the initial portion of the design process and will include a quote for the final design cost and the cost of construction.

Blanchard said that DPAW had already raised about $20,000 for overage costs not included in grants. Although some of the group’s fundraising ideas were not possible during the pandemic, a calendar contest at the end of last year was quite successful, Blanchard said, as were ongoing monthly can and bottle drives.

The next bottle and can drive will be held on June 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 12 Shaker Drive. The group will accept glass containers in their original cases or a box, cans in a bag, and plastic bottles labeled with a count.
