Donald T. Lewis, 81
Donald T. Lewis, 81, of Englewood, FL formerly of Canton, died Oct. 31, at Tidewell Hospice, Venice, FL. He was the husband of Roberta (Sousa) Lewis and the son of the late Joseph P. and Mary Anna (Kennedy) Lewis.
He was born in Bridgewater and lived in Canton for many years before moving to Florida in 1996. He attended Brockton schools.
Mr. Lewis worked as a custom builder and developed Country Club Acres in Canton. He was a self-employed custom builder since he was 20 years old. He retired at age 61, after building hundreds of custom homes.
He volunteered at Meals on Wheels in Englewood, FL, as a driver and carpenter from the 1990s to present, was a Cub Scout volunteer in the 1970s, and a Campfire Girls of America volunteer in the 1980s.
He was a proud member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Englewood, FL, and a former member of St. John the Evangelist in Canton and St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, camping, golfing, bird-watching, and crafting dollhouses and wood puzzles for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta (Sousa) Lewis, they were married for 62 years; 2 sons, Donald Lewis of Taunton and Matthew Lewis of Canton; 3 daughters, Cynthia Lewis of Quincy, Ginnylee Lewis and her husband Bill Teed of Onset, and Robin Cody of Englewood, FL; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer, D.J., Sophia Lewis, Sarah, Cassie, Andrew, and Melissa Cody, Zoe Antonopoulos and Billy Teed; a great-grandchild, Mackenzie Teed; several loving nephews and nieces; his beloved dog, Sasha. He was the brother of the late Joseph and James Lewis and Gertrude Williams. He will be missed by many friends in MA and FL.
His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in Centre Cemetery, Wareham.
Visiting hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s memory may be made to Englewood Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 782, Englewood, FL 34295.
