Droves of customers attend HomeGoods opening

It had been literal decades since Herb Wright saw a line as long as the one he saw in HomeGoods Sunday.

“I haven’t seen a line this long since I was in the service!” said the retired Navy veteran, of the line stretching from the back of the store all the way to the multiple checkout counters.

HomeGoods is a home furnishing store operated by TJX companies. It carries discount designer goods from companies around the world. The store’s opening at Wareham Crossing was announced in December.

Wright hails from Carver, and, as a self-professed HomeGoods lover, drove to Wareham for the grand opening of the new HomeGoods store at Wareham Crossing.

“My whole family loves HomeGoods,” Wright said. “We have a daughter, who will probably come up here for lunch, so she can go to HomeGoods a little more often.”

Wright wasn’t the only one to drive from a different town to come to the opening of the store. Pamela King and a friend drive from Freetown, about 25 minutes away. According to an employee, they were among the thousands of people who flooded the 19,986-square-foot store, keeping the store’s 55 employees on their toes.

“The only other closest one to us is in Seekonk, about 40 minutes away,” King said.

TJX representative Robyn Arvendon said the company expects the store to have a total of 65 full-and part-time positions. It is the 31st store in the Boston-area market.

HomeGoods joins several other new additions to Wareham Crossing, including The Black Dog Outlet, which opened its first outlet store in October 2015, and family restaurant Casa Cancun, which opened in May 2015. Gourmet Garden will also join the shops at Wareham Crossing in the near future.
