East Wareham church welcomes 200 for free Thanksgiving dinner

Nov 17, 2018

Roughly 200 people received food and fellowship Saturday night while members of an East Wareham church dished out a free Thanksgiving dinner.

The feast featured a traditional meal with all of the fixings, courtesy of the Grace Lighthouse Fellowship Church, located at 3065 Cranberry Highway.

Pastor David Beguerie said this was the second year the free meal was offered. Beguerie said for some this was the only Thanksgiving meal they were a part of this year. It also serves as an outreach event for the non-denominational, Bible preaching church, which was established 10 years ago.

“The meal is two-fold,” said Beguerie. “We have a desire to feed people and to give them a presentation of the gospel.”

Beguerie thanked the volunteers and donors who made the meal possible. Shaw’s and Stop & Shop donated food while Lyndsey’s Family Restaurant and the Eagles Club of Buzzards Bay helped prepare 20 turkeys.

Ginny Scibilio, a member of the church and volunteer, said many hours went into preparing the meal ahead of Saturday. She said the event has grown since it started last year.

“It seems like something the town really appreciates,” said Scibilio. “Our whole heart is in this, and we want people to recognize there is a connection between this church and the community and to share Jesus’ message.”
