East Wareham man arrested for OUI after accident seriously injures 1

A 49-year-old East Wareham man was arrested Sunday night following an accident that left a motorcyclist in critical condition.

Police have charged Thomas Traggis with operating under the influence causing serious injury, negligent operation and marked lanes violation. According to police, Traggis struck a motorcycle traveling southbound on Route 28 near Vaughn’s Towing at approximately 10 p.m. on May 29.

Police said the 24-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Police have not released the victim’s identity.

Traggis, who escaped injury, was arraigned in Wareham District Court on May 31.

The accident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and Wareham Police.
