Editor's video: Local musician jams at Buzzards Play Productions

When Shaun England took the stage of Buzzards Play Productions with his guitar on Jan. 18, he had home-stage advantage -- if such a thing exists.

“It’s great because I live here. My kids go to school here. I just love playing for my hometown,” England said.

England is a Wareham resident who, with the help of his bandmates, has fused blues and country music into a neat sound. While the blues may seem outdated to some, England feels it can translate well to any listener.

“I think anyone can identify with blues,” said England. “You would be hard pressed to find someone who can’t relate to blues because the basis of all music comes from the blues.”

For England, though, playing is not about “pandering to the audience.” He is simply performing a passion.

“I do what I do because I love the music,” England explained.

“When I’m up there, I’m 100 percent into the music. It’s very organic. It’s very real,” said England. “It’s like looking at poetry or a painting. There’s no middle man. I’m just connecting with people through music.”

England has also played at the Onset Summer of Love concert series, and he has grown to appreciate the arts scene in Wareham.

“I’m proud of the art, the renaissance here in Wareham,” England said.
