Egg hunt delights families in Onset

Apr 15, 2017

The Easter bunny made an early stop in Onset on Saturday.

The bunny visited during the frenzied, annual egg hunt – the largest one yet according to organizers – held in Onset’s Prospect Park.

For the past 11 years, the free egg hunt, which usually lasts all of 60 seconds, is sponsored by the Onset Bay Association and Marc Anthony’s Pizzeria owners John and Marc Salerno.

Nicole Miceli oversees the egg hunt, enlisting the help of students involved with the Best Buddies program. The nonprofit seeks to foster friendships and provide opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This year, eight students stepped forward to lay down the 8,200 candy-filled eggs and pass out prizes at the end of the event, Miceli said. Prizes were donated by Stop & Shop.

On hand for the hunt were kids as young as a few months old to middle schoolers.

Molly McNultey arrived with her daughters Emmy and Lucy for the hunt. An Oklahoma native, Molly moved to Wareham within the past few months.

“We were trying to figure out what to do this weekend, this popped up in my Facebook feed, and here we are!” she said.
