BUZZARDS BAY – Elizabeth Claire (Bassett) Chapman, 91, of Buzzards Bay, passed away on June 12, 2024, at Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home, Buzzards Bay. She was the widow of the late James H. Chapman and the daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Ransom) Bassett.

She was born in Wareham and lived in Bourne for most of her life. She graduated from Bourne High School.

Mrs. Chapman worked in the kitchen at the Riverview School in Sandwich for many years before retiring.

She enjoyed trips to the casino, decorating and remodeling her home, spending time with her family. She was fashionable and loved the color purple. She loved animals, especially Bailey and Madison.

Survivors include her children, Charlene Meleo of Nokomis, FL, James H. Chapman Jr. of Buzzards Bay, Dale R. Chapman of Bourne, Ronald Chapman of Wareham, Brian Chapman of Frostproof, FL, Lisa Lods of Pocasset and Steven Chapman of Trumball, CT; 2 sisters, Ruth Ferrari of Sagamore and Barbara McGinty of The Villages, FL; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late George Bassett, Everett Bassett, Dorothy Manter and Mary Hodge.

Visiting hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
