WAREHAM – Elizabeth M. “Betsey” (Crawford) Whitcomb, 82, of Kingston, formerly of Wareham, passed away on November 16, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Plymouth. She was the wife of the late Carl R. Whitcomb. They were married for 58 years. She was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth S. (Clement) Crawford.

Betsey was born in Greenfield, MA and raised in Montague, MA. She moved to Wareham in 1966. Betsey obtained her Nursing degree and worked as an R.N. at both Falmouth Hospital and Tobey Hospital. She also graduated Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Arts in English while raising a family and working the night shift at Tobey Hospital. After she retired, she cared for Carl who suffered from Parkinson’s disease.

She enjoyed reading, yearly trips to Martha’s Vineyard with her husband on their sailboat and traveling to Bermuda and England. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Wareham and the Red Hat Society. She loved animals, especially cats.

She is survived by her sons: Robert Whitcomb and his wife Van of Princeton and Stephen Whitcomb and his wife Leanne of Hanson; 5 grandchildren, William, Daniel, Benjamin, Emma and Anne. She leaves a niece, Betsy Finch of Glen, NH, and a nephew, Warren Morse, of Wareham. Her niece, Melinda (Morse) McCarthy, predeceased her in 2005.

A graveside service celebrating Betsey’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Center Cemetery, Wareham.
