Elizabeth Morey, 83

Elizabeth “Betty” Frances Morey, died at home while surrounded by her loving caregivers in Dartmouth on Feb. 19.   Betty Morey was born in New Bedford on Feb. 24, 1930 to the late Ellis Shattuck and Eleanor Frances (Beaton) Morey. She was the granddaughter of the late Peter G. and Clara T. (Gault) Beaton and the late Maddison W. and Florence G. (Pierce) Morey.   She grew up in the two family Gault homestead in West Wareham with her parents and her uncle and aunt, Gilbert and Elmira (Beaton) Phinney and their children, Barb, Rick and Mack.  The Moreys and Phinneys were one loving family, playing, laughing and working together.

Betty is survived by Barbara and Jon Baily, her cousins and guardians; her cousins, Malcolm and Catherine Phinney, Jeanne Bailey, Lauren Bailey, Erik Bailey, his wife Debora and son, Justin; Jessica and Jonathan Mulholland and their son, Finn; Nicole Anzivino and her son, Andres. Betty leaves an extensive family of four generations of Beaton cousins and her friend and former caregiver Ann Bailey. Her home during the last years of her life was with her loving caregivers and family on Allen Street in Dartmouth.

She attended the West Wareham School and Perkins Institute for the Blind in Watertown. A former member of The Church in the Pines in West Wareham, she was a member of the Prayer Circle and on the staff of the church newsletter. She was a former member of the West Wareham Grange and the Tobey Guild.

Betty was proud of her Scottish heritage and her extended family. She was loved and will be missed.

A private graveside service will be held at Center Cemetery in Wareham.
