Elks donation benefits veterans

Sep 1, 2016

The Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73 donated a washer and dryer to New Bedford’s Veterans Transition House on Aug. 26. The Veterans Transition House helps homeless and returning veterans by giving them “a hand up, not a hand out”.

Veterans Chairman Ted Hatch made the request and was given the OK to move forward with the purchase after making an unsuccessful bid for a grant from the Grand Lodge.

After comparing prices, Hatch visited Lowes in the Wareham and was offered the items with a $100 discount per unit. The Elks commended Lowes for their support.
