Elm Street bridge closed

Jun 20, 2014

As of Friday, June 20, the bridge located on Elm Street has been closed indefinitely according to Wareham Police.

According to Town Administrator Derek Sullivan the bridge is closed due to safety concerns.

He said the Mass Department of Transportation was doing work in the nearby area and advised the town to close the bridge.

"They said to us 'if this was our bridge we would close it immediately," Sullivan said.

Municipal Maintenance workers will be placing jersey barriers on each side of bridge. There will still be able to access Tremont Nail and surrounding properties but no one will be able to travel over the bridge. Plan accordingly for any emergencies.

Police said Little People's College has been notified and that area will only be accessed from Route 28 end. The Old Company store has also been notified. The only portion of the road closed off is the bridge itself.
