Elsie May (Pittsley) DeGowin, 87, of West Wareham, passed away March 19 at Tobey Hospital. She was the wife of the late Donald DeGowin. Mrs. DeGowin was born in Marion the daughter of the late Henry W. and Beatrice (Burgess) Pittsley.

A lifelong area resident, Elsie attended Marion Public Schools and was a member of the Church in the Pines. A seamstress, Elsie worked for many years in the clothing industry in New Bedford. She enjoyed baking pies, cooking and cross stitching.

She is survived by her children: Donald E. DeGowin and his wife Jane of West Wareham, Alan H. DeGowin and his wife Sandra of West Wareham, Sandra L. Carrie of Virgina and Donna M. Jenkins and her husband Steven of Virgina. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is the sister of Warren Pittsley of Carver and Gary Pittsley of West Wareham. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was the sister of the late Henry and Robert Pittsley, Edith Masterson and Myrtle Porter.

Her funeral service will be held Thursday, March 23, in the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center St. Wareham at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. only in the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.
