Eugene F. Scopa, 89

EAST WAREHAM – Eugene F. Scopa, 89, of E. Wareham, formerly of Quincy, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Gomez) Scopa.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Lucy (Scopa) Boucher and graduated from Roslindale High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Salem (CA-139) that served as the flagship of the Sixth Fleet. His deployments included service in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Scopa worked as an oil burner technician and retired as general manager of White Fuel Company in South Boston. Previously living in Quincy, he moved to Wareham in 2012. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his children, Helen Polvere of Quincy, Karen Robertson and her husband Alexander "Sandy" of Quincy, Geno Scopa and his partner Sheila Kane of Rockland, and Michael Scopa and his wife Lillian of Plympton. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, including Benjamin Leahy of W. Palm Beach, FL with whom he had a special relationship, and 18 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son in-law, the late Michael Polvere.

Funeral services will be private.
