Family honored for volunteer work at Gleason Family YMCA

DARTMOUTH — Wareham resident Jacqueline Webb has always tried to instill a sense of social responsibility in her family.

When the pandemic hit, her family — like many around the country — fell on hard times, but they didn’t let that get in the way of their dedication to service.

To get by, they utilized a number of programs offered at the Gleason Family YMCA.

And as soon as she and her family were able to give back, they did.

“She started showing up [to the Y] and asking ‘how can we help — where do you need us?,’” Senior Program Director Mel Dyer said. “They’ve shown up every week, regardless of the weather — it was just remarkable.”

To celebrate their dedication to helping those in need, Webb and her family were honored at the Dartmouth Y during the kickoff of YMCA Southcoast’s 2021 Full Plate Project to support families in need

“It’s a wonderful program,” Webb said. “We were fortunate to be involved in many aspects from the receiving end to packing and distributing.”

The Wareham volunteer noted that being involved with the Full Plate Project also changed her perspective on the people who typically receive donations, adding that she “unfortunately may have had a few judgements about the situation.”

“I have since found out that need does not discriminate,” Webb said. “People need help.”
