Fifteen former Gatemen are headed to the big leagues
Fifteen former Wareham Gatemen are headed to the big leagues to play for a variety of Major League Baseball teams.
The Major League Baseball draft was held Sunday, July 13 and Monday, July 14. During the draft, 615 players were taken across 20 rounds.
Brendan Summerhill. Summerhill was the first Gatemen taken off the board by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 42nd pick. Summerhill played his college ball at the University of Arizona in Tuscon, Arizona where the centerfielder posted a .323 batting average across his three years there.
Summerhill took his talents to Wareham for the 2024 season where he recorded a .286 batting average and notched 14 runs-batted-in during his 24 games.
Murf Gray. Gray was the next Gatemen taken off the board by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 73rd pick in the draft. At California State University Fresno, in Fresno, California the third-basemen recorded a batting average of .306 during his three year career.
Gray held down the hot corner for the Gatemen in 2024 and put his strong hitting on display with a .326 batting average and 27 runs-batted-in during his 35 games.
Max Williams. Williams was drafted five picks after Gray by the Miami Marlins with pick number 78. The outfielder played his college ball at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and at Florida State University in Tuscaloosa, Florida.
Williams posted strong hitting numbers in college, recording a .314 batting average in three years and a .273 batting average for the Gatemen while only appearing in three games for the team.
Antonio Jimenez. Jimenez was the last Gatemen selected on night one by the New York Mets with pick 102. The shortstop played two years of college baseball at University of Miami in Miami, Florida and the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
Jimenez played for the Gatemen in 2024 where he recorded a batting average of .203 in 39 games but his breakout season came for Central Florida in 2025 where he posted a .329 batting average and 11 home runs.
Christian Foutch. Foutch played for the Gatemen in 2024 and the relief pitcher is shipping up to Boston because the Red Sox took him with the 148th pick.
While playing for the Gatemen, Foutch didn't give up a run in 1.1 innings pitched. The relief pitcher spent his collegiate career at the University of Arkansas and had an earned run average of 3.81.
Lucas Mahlstedt. With the 199th pick, Mahlstedt was selected by the Los Angeles Angels. This relief pitcher spent the beginning of his collegiate career at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and his final two years at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.
The two-time Gatemen recorded an earned-run-average of 0.92 in 12.2 innings pitched. During his four year college career, Mahlstedt posted an earned-run-average of 4.08 while striking out 197.
Julian Tonghini. Tonghini is headed to the nation’s capitol to pitch for the Washington Nationals. The 2019 world series champs drafted the former Gatemen with the pick.
Tonghini spent the first two years of his collegiate baseball career at Boston College, transferred to University of Indiana Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana. In college, Tonghini had an earned run average of 5.37.
Riley Eikoff. Eikhoff is pitching his way from Wareham to the Windy City to suit up for the Chicago White Sox.
The 256th pick played his college career at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. As a Chanticleer, Eikhoff had an earned-run-average of 4.45. In 2023, Eikhoff recorded 21 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched for the Gatemen.
Will Koger. Koger is going from a Sun Devil to a Padre as he was the 280th pick by the San Diego Padres. While at Arizona State University, Koger had 17 strike outs in 18 innings pitched.
Koger went from the West Coast to the East in 2023 when he played for the Wareham Gatemen. Koger spent three years of his collegiate baseball career at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, and his final year at the University of Arizona in Tempe, Arizona.
Bobby Boser. From Florida to California, Boser is headed to the big leagues as a shortstop for the Oakland Athletics as he was the 320th pick. As a Bull at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, Boser’s batting average was .305.
Boser made his Gatemen debut in 2023 and returned for the 2024 season. Boser hit 2 home runs during his final season in Wareham. Boser’s collegiate career began at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and ended at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Rylan Galvan. With the 376th pick, the Chicago White Sox selected Ryan Galvan out of Texas University. The former Longhorn and Gatemen catcher enters the pros after a three year college career where he hit 27 home runs with a .279 batting average.
Galvan only appeared in three games for the 2024 Gatemen but was still able to earn a .300 batting average and recorded three runs-batted-in in as many at bats.
Anthony Watts. Headed to the bump for the Saint Louis Cardinals is pitcher Anthony Watts out of the University of Iowa. Watts was selected with the 420th pick after a three year college career that began at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and ended in Iowa.
In college Watts recorded an earned-run-average of 4.33 and only pitched three innings for the Gatemen in 2024. While in Wareham Watts struck out three in as many innings pitched.
Jared Davis. Davis was the first Gatemen from this year’s team taken in the draft at pick 500 by the Oakland Athletics. The infielder bounces around the diamond, playing multiple positions for the Gatemen and played his college ball at Arizona Western College, Florida South Western State College and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Davis recorded a .283 batting average with nine home runs for Virginia Tech this past season and has already swiped two bags in three games for the Gatemen so far this year.
Patrick Galle. Staying close to Wareham, Galle is headed up to Fenway and was drafted 508th by the Boston Red Sox. The pitcher played two years in Wareham and two years for the University of Mississippi.
In 2024, Galle posted an earned-run-average of 5.19 for the Gatemen but has dropped his earned-run-average to 1.04 in eight games this year.
Braeden Sloan. Sloan was the last Gatemen taken in the draft at pick 514 by the Baltimore Orioles. The 2024 Gatemen alum and pitcher played three years of college baseball at Texas Christian University where he struck out 147 batters in 124 innings pitched.
While with the Gatemen, Sloan pitched 13 innings and recorded 19 strikeouts while only walking six.
