Fire burns through boat on Acoaxet Lane

Jun 30, 2014

It took two fire engines and eight Wareham firefighters to stop a boat from burning in a backyard at 16 Acoaxet Lane Saturday night.

According to Wareham Fire Department Captain Courtney DeBlois, the department was notified at 7:26 p.m. on Saturday evening that a 21-foot Trophy Center Console Walkaround vessel had caught fire.

“It was knocked down quickly,” said DeBlois of the fire, which he said started when a trickle charger the owner had hooked up to the boat’s battery malfunctioned. “(The owner) was servicing the boat to go out and had a trickle charger on it that caught the boat on fire.”

DeBlois also said that nothing else on the property caught fire except for some grass, that damages to the boat were estimated at $20,000, and that firefighters had left the scene by 8:31.

There were no injuries reported from the fire.
